Dr. Weingart received his medical degree and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then went on to a fellowship in Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and ECMO at the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He is currently an attending at Nassau University Medical Center. He is a professor of emergency medicine at Nassau University Medical Center and an adjunct professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

In addition, Dr. Weingart is a physician coach concentrating on the promotion of eudaimonia and optimal performance. He has received numerous teaching awards and is recognized as a master educator by Mount Sinai’s Institute of Medical Education. He is best known for his podcast on Resuscitation and ED Critical Care called the EMCrit podcast; has been downloaded > 50 million times. His career goal and the purpose of this blog and podcast are to bring Upstairs Care, Downstairs–that is to bring ICU level care to the ED, so our patients can receive optimum treatment the moment they roll through the door.

Dr. Rory Spiegel is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Attending Physician in the Departments of Emergency Medicine at Washington Hospital Center. He is board-certified by ABEM in emergency medicine and by ABIM in critical care medicine.

Dr. Josh Farkas is an assistant professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Vermont (Burlington Vermont, USA). His training consisted of medical school at Cornell University followed by Internal Medicine residency at Dartmouth University and a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Albany Medical Center. Although trained and board certified in both Pulmonology and Critical Care, he works exclusively as a clinician educator in the combined medical, cardiac, and neurological ICU. His interests include point-of-care ultrasonography, coffee, FOAMed, and all things related to the ICU.

Dr. Leon Boudourakis is a critical care surgeon and ICU Director at NYC Health & Hospital, as well as an Assistant Professor at Downstate Hospital, NYC Health & Hospitals.

Dr. Philippe Rola is the ICU chief and Medical Director at Santa Cabrini Hospital in Montreal and part of the ICU at Humber River Regional Hospital and Scarborough General Hospital in Toronto. He is also the co-Founder and current President of CCUS.

Dr. Chad Meyers is the Director of the Division of Emergency Critical Care for the Mount Sinai Medical System as well as the Director of Emergency Critical Care for Elmhurst Hospital Center. He completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai and a fellowship in Anesthesia Critical Care at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He currently practices clinically in both the emergency department and the surgical-trauma ICU at Elmhurst Hospital Center. He is also an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Ashley Shreves earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and chemistry from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Shreves completed a residency in emergency medicine with St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. She then completed a palliative medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Most recently, she has spent her time practicing emergency medicine and has held the position of Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine residency program at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Shreves is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Diane Calello is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and a toxicologist, and she became a member of ACMT in 2001, and her second term as an ACMT Board Member runs from 2020-2023. She is currently the Executive and Medical Director at New Jersey Poison Information and Education System and also a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey.

Dr. Howard Grellar is the Director of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He is an emergency medicine physician and a toxicologist focused on addiction medicine. He is the co-host of the podcast, Dantastic Mr Tox & Howard, Tox & Hound.

Dr. James (Jim) DuCanto is a practicing Anesthesiologist for the past 23 years at Advocate Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, the largest private hospital in the state of Wisconsin. He has coordinated and supervised the Anesthesiology rotation for resident physicians and medical students at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center from 2004 until the Spring of 2020. Expanding his vision for the education of prehospital health care workers, he assumed the role of Medical Director of the Mid-State Technical College EMS program in May 2020, and moved his Anesthetics practice to the community hospitals and other procedural facilities of Advocate Aurora Health Care in the summer of 2020.

Through the phenomenon of FOAMed (Free Open Access Medical Education), he has collaborated with Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Prehospital and Retrieval Medical educators worldwide. Through his collaborations with colleagues in these diverse specialties, he has produced innovations related to Prehospital, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care airway management with the invention of a specialized rigid suction catheter (the “SSCOR DuCanto Suction Catheter”) as well as techniques to manage the massively soiled airway (the “SALAD” Technique), and a simulator to demonstrate and practice the SALAD technique (the Nasco Life/form® S.A.L.A.D. Simulator).

Dr. DuCanto became board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine in December of 2008, and has an interest in “Alternative” and “Complementary” medicine. He is an independent Reiki Master that teaches classes in Reiki through Aurora Complementary Medicine since 2007. He has included techniques of Therapeutic Breathwork into both simulation and clinical airway management training.

Dr. Felipe Terán is a defining expert and researcher in the field of critical care ultrasound, transesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac arrest resuscitation. He has trained more than 800 emergency medicine and intensive care clinicians globally, and through numerous publications, national and international presentations, and workshops, he is revolutionizing emergency care.

Dr. Terán is an associate professor of emergency medicine, translational resuscitation scientist at Weill-Cornell Medicine in New York. He completed a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at Mount Sinai Hospital, a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania and is a testamur of the National Board of Echocardiography Critical Care Echocardiography Examination. He directs the Resuscitation Science Unit of the Division of Emergency Research and is co-chair of the Committee on Cardiac Arrest and Rapid Response Teams at Weill Cornell Medicine. Using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), his current work focuses on the study of the physiological effects of chest compressions on haemodynamics and cerebral perfusion, and their impact on resuscitation outcomes.

He is founder of the Resuscitative TEE Project and principal investigator of the Resuscitative TEE Collaborative Registry (rTEECoRe), a research network that aims to accelerate the development of research into the use of TEE in emergency and critical care. As course director of The Resuscitative TEE Workshop, Dr. Terán leads a
multidisciplinary group of experts and has trained more than 1,700 physicians worldwide. His research has been funded by the Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) and the Zoll Foundation, as well as the National Institute of Health (NIH). Recently, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) awarded him a research training grant to investigate the haemodynamic impact and clinical outcomes of TEE during cardiac arrest, as well as barriers and facilitators to successful application during resuscitation.
