Recognize & Identify - Common Toxicology Presentations and Food Poisonings

This course was created for the new PA, NP or doctor who needs to understand the basics of toxicology; whether it's in the ER, primary care or urgent care. It consists of multiple case scenarios going over the most common medical toxicology, accidental exposure, or overdose presentations encountered in these care settings. Our Master Clinicians educator has designed this bootcamp course to train providers of all levels so they can apply the information right away.

Topics Covered in the

Course

  • Recognize Clinical Presentations of Poisoned Patients in Outpatient Settings: Identify various signs and symptoms associated with toxic exposures, such as ocular injuries from caustic substances and pediatric ingestions.

  • Understand the pathophysiological differences between acid-induced coagulation necrosis and alkali-induced liquefactive necrosis, and their implications for patient management.

  • Implement Immediate Management Strategies for Chemical Eye Injuries: Apply prompt irrigation techniques, including the use of Morgan lenses and pH monitoring, to mitigate ocular damage effectively.

  • Recognize medications that pose significant risks in pediatric populations, such as sulfonylureas, and understand their potential for causing severe hypoglycemia.

  • Assess the severity of toxic exposures to decide between emergency department referral and home management, ensuring patient safety and optimal care.
